Improving Paved and Unpaved Roads and Platforms
Overview
The Spectra Roadway Improvement System increases the economics and performance of subgrade, subbase and base thereby:

Simplifying and speeding construction
Decreasing labor and equipment requirements
Reducing aggregate fill thickness(es)
Reducing undercut/overexcavation
Improving durability

The Spectra System can actually increase the effective strength of the pavement structure while at the same time enhancing its internal drainage characteristics. Tensar® Biaxial (BX) Geogrid and aggregate fill interact to create a stiffer composite structure. The result is a stronger, yet not brittle, pavement that's more economical, better performing, more durable and predictable - as proven with more than 375 million square meters of installations to date - or the equivalent of over 50,000 lane miles. That's enough to support a two lane highway around the circumference of the earth!

Dr. J. P. Giroud and Dr. Jie Han recently released new technology for subgrade improvement design. Their work is the most comprehensive advancement in the structural design of unpaved roads in the last 20 years. Tensar International Corporation has taken this technology a step further by developing SpectraPave3™ Software based on Mechanistic-Empirical (M-E) design research conducted by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
